We have carefully selected the dates to pilot swims on Lake Tahoe. Our experience has shown these dates to be consistently favorable in terms of water temperature (64º – 68º+F / 17.7º – 20º+C) and weather.
In the weeks prior and after this window, lake temperatures fluctuate a fair amount and are often below 60ºF/15.8ºC, and air temperatures in early fall can easily dip under 32ºF/0ºC at night. As a result, the number of swims we offer is limited to this window to ensure all of our swimmers have the best chance of success.
We do offer a limited number of swims in late June for those who are seeking cooler water temperatures (upper 50’sF to low 60’sF). Please contact us if this is a date you might be interested in.
IMPORTANT: We will prioritize applicants who are marathon swimmers and intend to attempt the courses observed by and following the rules of Lake Tahoe Marathon Swimming, which means, in short, that you’ll be swimming in cap, suit, and googles… We do allow a limited number of assisted swims each year, so if you’re interested in a non-marathon swim, still get in touch. If have questions about this, feel free to reach out and discuss your goals.
Lastly, we expect to sell out again early due having to reschedule a number of 2021 applicants who were forced to abort their 2021 attempts due to wildfires/smoke and the ongoing Covid travel restrictions of swimmers based outside of the United States who have been deferred from 2020.
